Pertubuhan Tindakan Wanita Islam (PERTIWI) is one of Malaysia's longest running NGOs, was established in 1967 to focus on the betterment of women and children, especially in education. Other than that, PERTIWI also has several on-going projects such as PERTIWI Soup Kitchen which is community outreach project which focuses in providing regular meals to the homeless and poor at various locations around Kuala Lumpur on a regular basis.
When they started the PERTIWI Soup Kitchen project in March 2010, they were only feeding 150 people. PERTIWI have gradually increased the number of food packages and they are now feeding between 550-700 people per night, four times a week. PERTIWI is assisted by volunteers from corporate organizations and other voluntary groups, as well as from universities and colleges, who help us in distributing food to the poor. Besides serving food, they also offer free basic medical service along with the food distribution activities.
It is indeed humbling to see volunteers from Malaysia and overseas, from all races and religious groups, coming together to feed the homeless who are also from all races and religious groups. Their project brings together people from all walks of life who just want to help the homeless and very poor.
This year, we are very delighted to inform that we will be joining PERTIWI Soup Kitchen Project next summer. Further details about the upcoming project will be posted in our social medias (Facebook and Instagram). So, stay tuned!
